How To Find the Best Web 2.0 Properties

This is a summary of a free video I saw from Howie Swartz on how to identify which are the best Web 2.0 properties to go for for generating traffic. It is changing all the time. Howie offered a unique method for staying on top.

First off, the old way of finding the hot properties (that most people know about) is to use Alexa to find the sites getting the most traffic:

 http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?cc=US&ts_mode=country&lang=none

It ranks the sites in the order based on the amount of traffic they are getting. It is a good fist idicator of the current most popular web 2.0 sites. 

A good trick is if you find a new web 2.0 site, is to be the first to register the top selling top nevel niche keywords there e.g.

site: hubpages.com online dating
site: wetpaint.com online dating

e.g.You might be able to claim some squidoo lenses for online-dating

The most competitive keywords have the most aggresive marketers. It is good to watch what these marketers are using to rank high e.g.  "buy viagra online" and "buy cialas online". If you see a site ranking multiple times you can be the first person there and own that web 2.0 real estate.
