Creating Landing Pages
Your landing page must have a single purpose. Google require
this in their quality suggestions. In fact your conversion will
improve anyway as a result.
There are basically 3 purposes for a landing page.
- Generate a lead
- Make a sale
- Brand your business
You can't for example have an optin form in the middle of a
sales page i.e. you should never have both buy buttons and
also optin-forms. Google will make you pay ten dollars a click
when a human reviewer comes around to check out your landing
page. Which will eventually happen.
TIP Lead generation works well for the content network or
selling low ticket reports.
TIP Also google hates deception. Don't say free report in
your adwords ad. and then expect them to signup. Be honest, in
your advertisement actually use the word signup but not the
word "free".
You landing page must be relevant. Always remember never,
ever keyword stuff or spam. Keep the language natural and in
the vocabulary of experts in your niche. Use the words in
Wikepedia that link out to other Wikdepedia pages. Make sure
you have some inbound links.
Title Tag <title>
- around 100 characters in length
- must contain the main keyword
- avoid punctuation. Use pipe instead as a
separator (|)
Headlines <h1>, <h2> - use
primay keyword in <h1> tag and use secondary or related
keywords in <h2> tags.
Description <META content=""
name=description>
- all about what your site is about in a conversational tone.
Use your main keyword. Don't do keyword stuffing. It is
displayed in organic search after your title.
Keywords <META content=""
name=keywords>
The meta content tag "keywords" is also important. Make sure
you use no more than 20 keywords. Comma separate. These
should be your top keywords relevant to your landing page.
TIP use the google keyword site tool to identify what is
actually relevant.
Images (image names, alt tags and title
tags)
Relevant images named correctly will help your score. Image
names will help your score the most. Be carful not to spam with
alt and title tags. The images may eventually get into
google images and give you a back link from google
images. This will increase your ranking. Likewise, it is
important to name your buy buttons and guarantees as numbers.
Numbers are ignored by google by and large.
Make sure you have a Sitemap, Contact Us, Privacy
Policy.
Things To Avoid
Duplicate content
Pop-ups and hover ads. Google's human reviewers will hit you
hard for these.
Never use marketing words like testimonials (use case
studies), free (use take), buy (use try), guarantee (use
promise)
